Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check out books and DVDs?

With your student ID.

What can I check out?

To take home: circulating books & magazines, 'zines, DIY book binding kits, DVDs, projectors, drawing aids like hands, feet, skulls, Cintiq pens, and board games.

For in-library use: items on reserve, bound periodicals, current magazines on the red shelves, Wacom styluses, Fluffy the Cat Skeleton, Chester the Anatomical Dummy.

This book says Library Use Only. I guess this means I can't take it home.

You are correct. You also can't check out most magazines and newspapers, but you can read them in the library, scan them, or make copies.

My instructor says there are books on reserve here. How do I get them?

Reserve books are held behind the circulation desk. We check them out to you for reading while in the library, so bring your student ID.

I forgot my student ID! Can I still check out?

Maybe. We will OCCASIONALLY make exceptions if you have some other form of ID, but if you make a habit of it, we'll stop. Sometimes we will take your keys if you're using a stylus or need a reserve book. But you really do need to bring your ID with you.

How many items can I have checked out at one time?

You may have 50 items total checked out at a time. You can check out 5 dvds or videos per day.

How long can I have them out?

You can check out books, 'zines, and kits for 21 days. Cintiq pens, board games, drawing aids, magazines, and DVDs circulate for 7 days.

Can I renew them?

You can renew books, 'zines, kits, DVDs, and magazines up to 6 times if there are no holds on them. CCAD and OhioLINK books are eligible for automatic renewal. You can also renew them online at My Account. Cintiq pens are not renewable.

Are there fines if I am late?

Only for Cintiq pens. For books, DVDs, magazines, etc., there are no late fines, but you will need to pay a replacement fee if you lose an item. The replacement fee for a lost CCAD item is $100. Lost OhioLINK books cost $125. If you have over $10 in fines, you can't check out more items until you get the fine under that amount. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards (with a .50 service fee) in the library, and you can also pay with a credit card through SelfService.

This record says it's an electronic book. What does that mean?

It means you're in luck! You can view it online, download it, or print it. See the E-Book LibGuide for more information.

Can I bring my drink into the library?

Yes, as long as it had a lid of some sort (cans are ok). Please keep beverage containers away from the computer keyboards and dispose of them in the trash cans or recycling bins.

Can I eat in the library?

No.

What is OhioLINK?

The Ohio Library and Information Network, OhioLINK, is a consortium of Ohio college and university libraries, and the State Library of Ohio, that work together to provide Ohio students, faculty and researchers with the information they need.

OhioLINK and its member libraries provide access to:

  • 48 million books and other library materials
  • Millions of electronic articles
  • 150 electronic research databases
  • 62,000 e-books
  • Thousands of images, videos and sounds
  • 26,000 theses and dissertations from Ohio students

Borrowing from OhioLINK

CCAD students, faculty, and staff can borrow items from other OhioLINK libraries.

You can request items to come to the CCAD Library. They usually arrive within 3-4 days. You can also go to another OhioLINK library with your student ID and check out just as if you were a student there.

Most books go out for 21 days, videos and dvds for 7.

You can renew books up to 4 times if there are no holds on the item. AV materials are usually not renewable.

Make sure you renew items BEFORE they are due. OhioLINK will not allow you to renew overdue books.

If you lose a book, OhioLINK charges $125. Ouch!
