Even in an educational institution, showing a film or other piece of media outside of the classroom
requires that the public performance rights be obtained.
While individuals may own a physical copy of a piece of media or subscribe to a streaming service with that media available,
access does not equal ownership.
CCAD has the following resources in place that include access to copyright and public performance rights
compliant media.
Beginning October 20, 2025, CCAD has a campus wide umbrella motion picture licensing agreement via MPLC.
A list of all production companies work that is licensed through MPLC can be found here.
Per MPLC license agreement, exhibited media can be in any form (physical media, streaming, download or via cable) but,
"No specific titles, or any characters from such titles, or producers’ names may be advertised or publicized to the general public,
and no admission or other fee may be charged to the audience. The exhibitions may not be used to endorse any goods or services."
To make sure copyright is being observed, MPLC recommends the following process:

Visit Internet Movie Database website at IMDb.com.
Search for the title you want to screen and click on your selection
Scroll down to the “production company” credit and click it.
On the company credits page review the “distributors” (for movies) and “production companies” (for TV). The title is covered if the distributor (for movies) or production company (for TV) is listed on the Umbrella License rightsholder list.

Kanopy is provided through the CCAD library and allows for use in educational settings.
All items Kanopy's catalog are permitted to be shown in a classroom setting.
Kanopy offers a Public Performance Rights filter that allows you to only view materials that have PPR available and included.
