Interlibrary Loan (ILL) for CCAD Students, Faculty, & Staff

Can't find what you are looking for through our library, OhioLink, or SearchOhio? We can try to get it from another library anywhere in the U.S.

Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Policy

  • Students, staff, and faculty may request copies of documents (primarily journal articles and book chapters) that are not available at CCAD or in one of our electronic databases.
  • Only faculty/staff may request books (but not textbooks) and audiovisual materials not obtainable through the OPAL, SearchOhio, or OhioLINK libraries.
  • Alumni and the general public may not request materials.

Placing an ILL request

  • Is the article you want available in one of the library's full-text databases? Please check before you place an interlibrary loan.
  • Is the book or book chapter you want available though our library, OhioLink, or SearchOhio? Please check before you place an interlibrary loan.

Email with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your CCAD email address
  • The title of the book/magazine
  • The title of the article/chapter
  • Volume, number, and date (if magazine); date and edition (if book)
  • ISBN or ISSN (if you have it)
  • Page numbers (ex. p.13-24)
  • Amount you would be willing to pay

PLEASE NOTE: If you need to cancel a request, contact the library at 614-222-3273 or email

It usually takes the following amount of time to obtain material:

  • Books - 1 to 2 weeks
  • Photocopies - Same day to 10 days

We do not charge CCAD faculty, students or staff to use ILL, but lending libraries may charge as much as $20 to send a book, DVD, or article. We try to borrow from free lenders when we can, but that is not always possible. Let us know how much you would be willing to pay.

Picking up requested material

When your item comes in, you will receive a notice via your CCAD email. We will also notify you if your request was cancelled due to unavailability or copyright restrictions.

  • If the lender sends a PDF of your article, we will forward it to your campus email.
  • You can pick up physical items at the Library's front desk during normal hours of operations. Books, DVDs, and other loans will have a due date on a paper strap around the item. DO NOT remove this paper strap.
  • Paper photocopies do not need to be returned and will be yours to keep.
  • Please note the condition of the material at the time you pick up your request. Tell the staff if you have any concerns about your item's condition.
  • All material on loan is subject to immediate recall if requested by the lending library.

CCAD adheres to the guidelines of the National Interlibrary Loan Code for the U.S. as put forth by the American Library Association and also complies with U.S. Copyright Law.
