CCAD Library Resources for Remote Teaching

Online Teaching Guide for Faculty

We are here for you!

Are you living outside of Central Ohio and can't come to our library? Of course you can use our electronic books, articles, and databases, but what if you need a physical book or article that you can't get online?

Copies of articles or book chapters

If you have the citation for an article or a book chapter that has no electronic version available, we can try to find it and send it to you by email.

  • If it's an article from a paper magazine or a chapter from a book we own, we can scan it for you and send it as an PDF. IMPORTANT! We cannot copy and scan entire magazine issues or books! This is a violation of U.S. copyright law.
  • If we don't own the item and you can't find it anywhere, we can place an Interlibrary Loan request for a copy of an article or book chapter from another library in Ohio or elsewhere in the U.S. Same copyright rules apply. This can take some time -- sometimes up to 10 days -- so be sure to start your research early so you will have time to get your articles.

Email us at library@ccad.edu to place a request.

If you live in Ohio...

One of the best perks of living in Ohio is our libraries, both public and academic. Here are some ideas for research if you don't live near Columbus:

Ohio Public Libraries

Did you know that as a resident of the state of Ohio, you can apply for a library card to any public library, even ones on the other side of the state? It's true! And some libraries allow you to apply online! Each public library system decides what kinds of electronic resources it wants to offer its patrons, so if you are near several public libraries, you might want to shop around - or collect them all! Your library may also offer interlibrary loan, so check with your local library. You can find a list of Ohio public libraries HERE.

SearchOhio is a public library consortium that shares books, DVDs, and other materials among other public libraries. They can also borrow items through OhioLINK!  You can see if your public library is part of SearchOhio HERE.

There's also the State Library of Ohio, which is in Columbus, but serves the entire state. It manages the Ohio Digital Library, which has ebooks, audiobooks, videos, and magazines. You can apply for a digital card online! They also offer scholarly journals and government publications

OhioLINK - Ohio's Academic Library Consortium

CCAD is a member of OhioLINK, Ohio's academic library consortium. This allows:

Direct Borrowing

You can borrow items directly from any OhioLINK library in person. Bring proof of your affiliation with an OhioLINK institution, such as your faculty ID.

Pick-Up Anywhere

OhioLINK patrons can choose to have items sent to libraries other than their home library. This is called Pick-Up Anywhere, or PUA. PUA allows materials to be delivered to any OhioLINK member's campus. Please check with the library you plan to use since they may have limited hours or policies for users who are not affiliated with their institution.

OhioLINK borrowing is currently suspended because of COVID-19 closures, but will restart on August 10.

How to request PUA:

  • Click on the green request button
  • Change the "pickup institution" from the drop-down menu to a convenient location when you want to pickup your items at a different location.
  • Take your faculty ID with you to check out materials.

For other questions about returning your requested OhioLINK items, please contact us.

Outside of Ohio

If you live out of Ohio or in another country, your options are limited somewhat, but here's what you can do:

  • Check with your local public library for resources you can access. Many public libraries also have in-state borrowing consortiums and can provide articles and books through interlibrary loan.
  • Check to see if your state has a State Library that offers materials for all its citizens.
  • Some college and university libraries have 'community' card that allow people in the community to borrow items. If not, you can always use materials in the library. Most academic libraries allow use of resources by the general public if they come in.
  • Some countries also have public libraries and academic libraries that allow locals to use their materials.
  • And of course we can help you with interlibrary loan for articles and book chapters (see box above).
